Basil, Thai - Ocimum basilicum

Alternative Names: Horapha, licorice basil

Actions and qualities: Promotes blood circulation and liver cleansing, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, aphrodisiac, and vitamin rich.

Specific uses: Used as a culinary herb, but it is also commonly made into tea to treat nausea.

Contraindications: Interacts with acetaminophen products and can have an effect of thinning the blood.  Pregnant and nursing mothers should consult a physician before use.

History and lore: In Asian cuisine such as Thai Noodle dishes or Vietnamese pho, it is often used more like a vegetable than an herb.
