Borage - Borago officinalis

Actions and qualities: Antidepressant, antianxiety, anti-inflammatory, toning.

Specific uses: Commonly taken as a tea or tincture. The flowers are often used as culinary decoration and impart a distinctly cucumber-like flavor. The seeds contain an oil which has beneficial fatty acids. It is also used topically as a poultice or cleanser.

Contraindications: Don't use continually or in high doses due to slight risk of liver damage.  Pregnant and nursing mothers should consult a physician before use.

History and lore: The name comes from the Latin ‘borago’ meaning both ‘heart’ and ‘I lead’.
