Actions and qualities: Anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant, especially effective for the lower back area. It helps in the healing of bruises, contusions and wounds, and even assists in the healing of fractures and sprains.
Specific uses: Due to mild toxicity it is not recommended to take internally. Although in some cases the root is infused into a mouth gargle (not consumed) to treat coughs. It is best used in an oil, slave, poultice or bath.
Contraindications: Due to mild toxicity it is not recommended to take internally. When used topically only apply repetitively for a maximum of ten days. It should be avoided by pregnant and nursing mothers.
History and lore: It is thought to prevent theft when packed with luggage on trips. Its botanical name translates to ‘grow together.’
