Actions and qualities: Dill is cooling; rich in vitamin A, C, iron and zinc; antidepressant; antispasmodic; and offers pain relief. It is also known to help people manage their blood sugar and is used as a diabetes preventative.
Specific uses: Leaves and seeds are commonly used as culinary herbs, and besides savory dishes it can be a surprising addition to teas, ales, wines and desserts.
Contraindications: There have been some recorded allergic reactions to dill. Avoid while pregnant, however it can be safe and helpful during breastfeeding due to its high nutrient content.
History and lore: The scent is thought to stimulate lust, and for that reason it used to be a tradition to put a few sprigs of dill in one's bath before an important date with the intention of being irresistible.
