Actions and qualities: Diuretic, antifungal, and anti-Inflammatory. It is used to treat hayfever, asthma and possibly even upper respiratory infections. It has been noted for having positive effects treating arthritis. Topically it has been used to treat minor wounds and yeast infections.
Specific uses: It is used as a tea, capsule, tincture, poultice, oil or salve. It also is a very popular infused in vinegar. Some fry and eat the flowers in the form of a fritter.
Contraindications: Some allergic reactions have been reported with heartburn-like symptoms, nausea and dizziness. Those with hayfever and pregnant and nursing mothers should consult a physician before use.
History and lore: Many are believed to have allergies to this plant, but it is more likely they are allergic to the common lookalike ragweed. Goldenrod is known to have an affinity with the blue aster flower, and they commonly grow together.
