Actions and qualities: Calming and anxiety relieving, muscle relaxing, antibacterial, and antifungal. Used to help induce sleep, soothe upset stomachs, and treat headaches.
Specific uses: Used in tea, tincture, aromatherapy oils and sprays, added to baths or used in poultices, or as an addition in salves. Can also be burned as an incense.
Contraindications: There have been some reports of allergic reactions with skin contact. Do not consume in large doses. Should be avoided by those with blood sugar disorders and children under two. Pregnant and nursing mothers should consult a physician before use.
History and lore: Tudor girls drank lavender tea before sleep, asking Saint Luke to appear in their dreams with a vision of their true love. Grown for its capability of blooming twice a year, this variety of lavender is used symbolically in ritual representing the number two.
