Lemon Verbena - Aloysia citriodora

Actions and qualities: Immune system boosting, rich in vitamins and minerals, digestive aid, sleep aid, anxiety relief, and anti-inflammatory. It is also used to treat acne and minor skin irritations.

Specific uses: It is used as a culinary herb, liqueur flavoring, tea, tincture, syrup, poultice, bath tea, perfume, salve and oil.

Contraindications: some people have reported allergic reactions upon skin contact. It should be avoided by people with kidney disorders.

History and lore: Used in purification baths. Some women would sew lemon verbena into the hems of their clothing to act as a natural deodorant.
