Actions and qualities: Decongestant, soothing to coughs, moisturizing, diuretic, mild laxative, aids in pain relief, supports heart health and is good for the skin, hair and nails. It has been reported to be helpful in the treatment of leaky gut syndrome.
Specific uses: It has a history of being used as a food source. The whole plant is edible and the flowers make a beautiful garnish. The leaves and root are both commonly made into a teas, tinctures and capsules. It is also added in oils, salves, poultices and baths to moisturize skin and nourish hair and nails.
Contraindications: It should always be taken along with 8 oz of water. It has the possibility of slowing the absorption of other drugs into the bloodstream if taken too close to other medications. It should be avoided by pregnant and nursing mothers.
