Actions and qualities: Anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, and diuretic. Used to treat symptoms of the common cold, asthma and used to promote general joint health.
Specific uses: The leaves and roots make a delicious tea and are commonly added to tinctures and capsules, with the root having very strong decongestant properties. The flowers can be infused into an oil to treat ear infections, or can be used as dye. It also makes a wonderful bath tea, skin oil, salve and can even be added into smoking blends.
Contraindications: Some cases of contact dermatitis have occurred with skin contact. It may inhibit antidiabetic medications or intensify muscle relaxers; if on these medications, or pregnant and nursing, one should consult a physician before use.
History and lore: It is traditionally burned to cut ties and change bad habits. It has also been burned with the intention of keeping livestock healthy.
