Actions and qualities: It is moisturizing, soothing to the nerves and very nutrient dense, making it beneficial for skin, hair and nail health.
Specific uses: While mature oats make up the food source most are familiar with as oatmeal, the immature buds of the same plant are known as ‘milky oats’ and often made into a tea or tincture. Many herbalists believe oatstraw tea to be a great companion to take daily along with nettle tea; this is thought to be a good tonic for people who feel tired despite how much rest they get. It can also be used in bath teas, oils, salves and poultices.
Contraindications: It has caused stomach discomfort in some people. Pregnant and nursing mothers should consult a physician before use.
History and lore: It is believed to be connected to the goddess Brigid.
