Actions and qualities: Immune boosting, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, and high in vitamins and minerals. Used to regulate blood pressure, treat menstrual cramps and topically treat irritated skin.
Specific uses: It is most commonly used as a culinary herb both fresh and dried. It can also be used to flavor drinks, or can be added to teas, tinctures, capsules, salves, oils, poultices or baths. It is also commonly used in household cleaners.
Contraindications: Some people have reported migraines triggered by thyme. Some allergic reactions have been also reported, along with breathing sensitivities, skin irritation, nausea and dizziness. People on hormone-related medications and pregnant and nursing mothers should consult a doctor before use.
History and lore: When added to baths it is believed to attract money.
