Actions and qualities: Immune boosting, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, and high in vitamins and minerals. Used to regulate blood pressure, menstrual cramps and irritated skin.
Specific uses: It has a sweet lemony flavor, slightly less spicy than other varieties of thyme. It is most commonly used as a culinary herb both fresh and dried. It can also be used to flavor drinks, and can be added to teas, tinctures, capsules, salves, oils, poultices or baths. It is also commonly used in household cleaners.
Contraindications: Some people have reported migraines triggered by thyme. Some allergic reactions have been also reported, along with breathing sensitivities, skin irritation, nausea and dizziness. People on hormone-related medications and pregnant and nursing mothers should consult a doctor before use.
